TRACK AND FIELD MEET

WELCOME TO THE 72nd ANNUAL ROTARY INVITATIONAL TRACK AND FIELD MEET.  THIS YEARS MEET WILL BE HELD ON THE 23rd AND 24th DAY OF MARCH, 2012. TO BE HELD AT AUSTIN FIELD, ON THE CAMPUS OF CHANDLER HIGH SCHOOL.

FORMAT:
Friday night will be contested solely for times and medals.  Each heat and flight will be grouped by times and every heat/flight will medal the top finishers. Friday session will be referred to as the Open Session. Saturday session will be referred to as the seeded session. This session will be contested for points, awards and team trophies.  It is possible for an athlete to compete in the Friday session in one event, and compete Saturday in a different event.

 

NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER SCHOOL
Each school will be allowed two (2) entrees in each individual event.  A third entry will be allowed if the entry exceeds the established qualifying standard.  Forty-Eight entries Plus the Top six (6) Alternates with the best qualifying times will be seeded into the seeded Invitational in the hurdles, 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes.  In addition, only the top fifty-six (56) entries will be accepted for the 800, and top (44) entries  1600 & 3200 meter run.  Each school will be allowed one entry in each of the relays.  Only three heats of the 1600 relay will be contested Saturday night.  Four Heats of the 400 Meter Relay will be contested.    Note we will attempt to post lane assignments on the Arizona Track Coaches web site. These will be preliminary and might not be the final draw.  Official lane assignments and positions will be handed out at the coaches meeting on Saturday morning. 

ENTRY DEADLINE
All entries will be completed by the coach using Direct Athletics. Deadline will be Thursday, March 15, 2012, by 9:00am. There will be no changes allowed to your entries after this date. 

ENTRY FEE
An entry fee of $300.00 is requested for each school entering the Chandler Rotary Invitational seeded and open meet. An entry fee of $150 is requested for those teams only entering one gender.  There  is a fee of $75 for out of state teams or those in state teams that wish to only enter six individuals or less.  Checks can be mailed Chandler High School or brought with you to the meet.  Please make every effort to take care of all paper work to ensure proper credit.

AWARDS  SEEDED****
Special Rotary Invitational Awards will be awarded to the top five finishers (including relays).  These will be awarded immediately after each race or event.  Team trophies will be awarded to the top three boys and girls teams.    The first place finisher will have the first choice for the award, second will then pick till fifth place gets her/his award.  This way in case someone is a multiple event winner they do not have to have two watches etc. If an award winner is NOT present at the awards stand then he or she looses their pick.  An outstanding track and an outstanding field male and female athlete will receive an award as the Most Outstanding Performer of the meet. 

 

AWARDS  OPEN
Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each sprint and relay race.  Drape Medals will be presented to the top five finishers in each flight of the field events and distance runs.  These races will be seeded straight by time.  The fastest eight will be grouped followed by the next fastest eight etc.  The distance runs and field events will be divided into two or three flights/heats (except the 3200m Run). No team points will be awarded from the open session, nor will team scores be kept in the open division.

 

ADMISSION  CHARGE

Admission charge for the public will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students with a school ID.  AIA cards will be the only passes accepted at the gate.

 

FIRST AID

A trainer will be on site.  The site for the training   table will be located at the Northwest end of the field near the bull-pen.  The trainers are there for critical care-injuries.  Please tape your own athletes.

 

SCORING:

Top eight places will score.  Scoring will be 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 only athletes who are competing in the seeded invitational will count in the team scoring. 

 

TRACK FACILITIES

The 400-meter track is an all weather surface and therefore will require soft-soled shoes with 1/4" spikes or less.

 

LANE ASSIGNMENTS

Lane assignments should be drawn and finished by Sunday night, March 18 by the Meet Director.  The entries in the 100, 200, 400, High Hurdles, and 300 Hurdles will be limited to the 48 (six heats) best times entered.  The four fastest heat winners will be advanced to the finals plus the next four fastest times regardless of place, and will be placed in lanes according to their qualifying times.   You may obtain a copy of lane assignments at the coaches meeting when you arrive.  Tentative lane assignments should be posted by Tuesday morning at http://az.milesplit.com/,   www.arizonatrack.com, or at the Chandler Rotary website at  http://www.wolfpactrack.com/Rotary%20Home.html 

Original entries will be replaced from the alternate list of the top six alternates at the staging area with the Clerk of the Course before the start of the race.  Lane and heat assignments should not be changed from the original entries. Athletes can have other athletes check in with the clerk of the course if they are currently engaged in competition.   

OLYMPIC  START

In all Track events which require one or more laps, the box alley start will be used.  The 200 meter dash will be run with a full turn.  The 1600 Meter Relay will use the 3-turn stagger.


LAPPED RUNNERS 3200
Any runner who is lapped could be required to withdraw from the race.  The lapped runner shall leave to the inside of the track.  Discretion as to the withdrawal of a runner, lapped by the lead runner in the last lap of the 3200 will be up to the Meet Director and Head Referee.


QUALIFYING MEET

The Chandler Rotary Invitational seeded and open invitational will be a certified meet for 2A-3A-4A-5A state meets. The past four years the Chandler Rotary also served as a qualifying meet for the state of New Mexico. Unfortunately the Colorado Athletic Association will not sanction out of state meets for automatically qualifying for their state meet.

 

REPORT CALL AND STAGING AREA

Contestants will report to the Staging area when the announcer gives the report call.  The call will be given at least 15 minutes before each event.  At this time contestants will be given their hip lane numbers, open lanes will be filled in and instructions given by the Clerk of the Course.  The starters will give no instructions.  If a contestant fails to report at or by the last call they will be disqualified from that race.  It is the coaches’ responsibility for having their athletes in the staging area at the proper times.  The staging area is the old tennis court located in the northwest corner of the facility.


TEAM AREAS

All team members; coaches and managers will stay in the stands or warm up areas.  Officials only will be allowed on the field.  Hurdles will be provided for warm ups.  Each coach will be responsible for keeping his team members in the bleacher areas.  Athletes may warm up on the new athletic fields located to the south of Austin Field.   All field event competitors who have been eliminated from competition will also be asked to leave the field.  Only current flights of shot put and discus throwers will be allowed on the field.  No team tents shall be set up in the east bleachers.  Please advise athletes that after they are done competing they need to exit the infield.


STARTING BLOCKS

Starting blocks will be furnished and set by Chandler High School.  A competitor can provide his or her own blocks.  Chandler High School will not be responsible for those blocks.   


GAMES COMMITTEE

Games committee will be announced at the coaches meeting.


COACHES MEETING SATURDAY

There will be a coaches meeting and continental breakfast starting promptly at 8:15 am in the gym behind the East Bleachers.    There will be no coaches meeting for Friday's session.


JEWELRY-TEAM UNIFORM RULE:

Reminder to check NFHS rule books in regards to team uniform rules.  NO jewelry will be allowed as per rule.

WRIST BANDS FOR ATHLETES AND COACHES:

All schools will be issued a wrist band for athlete competing on each day.

PACKET PICK UP FOR FRIDAY

Packets will be picked up upon arrival by the pass gate or coaches social on Thursday.  Packets will include lane assignments for Friday races wristbands for both Friday and Saturday.

Log onto www.directathletics.com and follow all instructions.  Remember your password. You need to create your team roster first, before entering into events. Please enter year in school of your athlete.

FIELD EVENTS

SEEDED INVITATIONAL SATURDAY:

All field event competitors will need to check out with event judges prior to reporting for a running event.  Athletes competing in a relay can report to the track.  Keep in mind that it is the team's responsibility for following all NFHS rules, such as matching uniforms etc.   In the Pole Vault there will be a coaches box on the infield.  Anyone in the pole vault coaches box MUST show certificate of completion of the Pole Vault coaching class.   All pole-vaulters must have weight certification on file with the athletic director's office of their school.  In addition all vaulters will be weighed and poles checked to see if they are of the proper weight usage.  Coaches will only be allowed in the roped off area and can talk to athletes at that spot.

SHOT PUT AND DISCUS
Shot Put and Discus rings are concrete.  In the seeded Invitational only Discus throws of 125 feet (boys); 80 feet (girls) will be marked.  Only throws in the Shot Put of more than 45 feet (boys) and 30 feet (girls) will be measured.  The top nine throwers will qualify for finals, where an additional three throws will be allowed.


Chandler High School will provide all of the throwing implements to be used in the Discus and Shot put competition.  These implements will be kept on a rack and will be available to warm up with.  NO OTHER IMPLEMENT WILL BE  USED IN COMPETITION.  If you have a special implement you may call the prior to the meet to petition its usage.  It will be weighed and left on the rack for the entire competition and any athlete may use it.


POLE VAULT, LONG JUMP AND TRIPLE JUMP

The runways for long jump, triple jump, pole vault and high jump area are of all weather surfaces, therefore all jumping events will require soft-soled shoes or track shoes with 1/4-inch spike or less.  Additionally Long jumps of less than 19- 6 and 15- 0 and triple jumps of less than 39-0 and 31- 0 will not be measured.   


HIGH JUMP:

Starting height will for the boys will be 5' 10".  The girls starting height will be 4' 10".  The three alive method will be used. 

OPEN INVITATIONAL   FRIDAY:

SHOT PUT AND DISCUS
Shot Put and Discus rings are concrete.    Discus throws of 100 feet (boys), 65 feet (girls) will be marked.  In the shot put, throws of over 37 feet (boys) and 24 feet (girls) will be marked.  Throwers will be given three throws with no finals.  Medals will be presented to the top five individuals in each flight.  Medals will be given to the individuals at the completion of each flight.


Chandler High School will provide all of the throwing implements to be used in the Discus and Shot put competition.  These implements will be kept on a rack and will be available to warm up with.  NO OTHER IMPLEMENT WILL BE  USED IN COMPETITION.  If you have a special implement you may call the prior to the meet to petition its usage.  It will be weighed and left on the rack for the entire competition and any athlete may use it.


POLE VAULT, LONG JUMP AND TRIPLE JUMP
The runways for long jump, triple jump, pole vault and high jump area are of all weather surface, therefore all jumping events will require soft-soled shoes or track shoes with 1/4 inch spike or less.   Long jumps of less than 18-0 (boys) and 14 feet (girls) and triple jumps of less than 33' (boys) and 25'(girls) will not be measured.  There will be four (4) jumps with no finals.  Medals will be given to the top five individuals in  each flight  Medals will be given to individuals at the completion of each flight.  Pole Vault opening heights will be 10' 0"  for boys and 7' 0" for girls. .  9” increases for the first three height increases of the pole vault will be used.  (10’, 10’ 9”, 11’ 6” and there after 6”)

 

HIGH JUMP:
Starting height will for the boys will be 5'  4".  The girls starting height will be 4'  4".  The three alive method will be used.
